Justin began triathlon in 2011 after taking a year away from endurance sports. He had been a distance swimmer at West Virginia University from 2006-2010, where he was Big East Champion in the 1650 freestyle in 2007. While at WVU he studied Civil Engineering. After graduating from WVU and spending a year in the area working he moved to Pennsylvania to be with his, then, girlfriend. After moving to Pennsylvania, Justin began pursuing triathlon.
In his first couple seasons prior to joining FFT, Justin had the opportunity to race locally as well as some exciting races such as Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Las Vegas, and The HyVee US Championships. While at HyVee He met Brian Duffy and the two began training together eventually resulting in Justin joining the team.
In his first season with FFT, Justin was able to make huge strides on his bike and run. With the great improvements, he was able to finish 3rd at the Columbia Triathlon (with a cancelled swim), finish 1st overall at the New Jersey State Triathlon, and finally cap of his season with an Age Group win, and 5th overall at USAT Age Group Nationals. Finally, to cap off the year He married his long-time girlfriend, Morgan.
This season, Justin will continue to focus on Olympic distance races. He will hopefully get the opportunity to test the waters of draft-legal racing, as well as race Age Group World Championships in Chicago, after qualifying last season.
