Testimonials

“I sought out FFT due to Eric’s ideal qualifications as a triathlon coach; Eric’s medical education and years of experience as a world-class professional triathlete gave him critical insight into the best way to tailor a training plan to my needs. Eric’s thorough understanding of sports physiology and biomechanics allows him to design training plans to prevent injury, maximize training time, and avoid gimmicks. Eric administers his own physiological tests and, with full understanding of the data, constructs training plans personalized for each of his athletes. Eric’s knowledge and experience allowed him to coach me through two unavoidable, potentially season-ending injuries to a top 5% finish at Ironman Wisconsin. With Eric’s guidance, I cut over 30 minutes from my best Ironman Wisconsin time–on reduced training time and while still feeling the consequences of a past injury. Moreover, with his emphasis on technique, the science of triathlon, and assembling a successful training plan, Eric left me with invaluable knowledge that I will apply to my future training. Finally, Eric is kind, encouraging, and professional in every sense of the word–more than offering knowledge and experience unmatched by other coaches, Eric is a genuinely great guy.”

-David Ziehr, UW Triathlon

“I started working with Eric in May of 2009. Prior to this I’d achieved some pretty good results as a self coached athlete, qualifying for Kona three times. But I felt I was starting to reach a performance plateau, and needed some expert guidance to take it to the next level. I was looking for a higher yield training method, and Eric’s ability to place top 10 at IM Wisconsin, and 21st in Kona, while in medical school, was evidence that he knew what he was doing. In 6 months of working with Eric, I’ve brought my Half Ironman PR down from 4:14 to 4:03, my Ironman bike power up over 40 Watts, and my half marathon pace down almost 30 seconds per mile. Last year, I could hold ~360W on the bike for 5 minutes. This year I can hold over 400W for 20 minutes. With Eric’s high yield training plan, I’ve been able to make these huge fitness gains while working full time, and I’ve progressed further than I ever thought I was capable of. I absolutely recommend FFT for anyone looking to take it to next level and beyond.”

-Mike Lavery, FFT Athlete and now coach

“[Alex], I just wanted to let you know that I am very happy with the coaching, the workouts are great and especially the correspondence is a great new experience for me. It was the right decision to change the coach at maybe a not ideal time. I am looking forward to a lasting team effort, improving in the long run and performing at peak levels in the upcoming years.
I have been reading a lot about Roth, the spectators will be crazy. There are spots on the bike course and on the run with over 20 000 people cheering you on with a total of a 130 000 spectators on the whole course. I can already feel the goosebumps!!”

-Steffen Schairer, Raleigh, NC

Dude, I’ve got to give you some serious props for the FFT System.  It’s been working wonders for me.  Mike has also done a phenomenal job coaching and implementing the system, but I’m guessing he couldn’t do it w/o your guidance and help itself.

-Mark Vermeersch, TIMEX

After giving triathlon a try for one season(2008) with moderate success; I decided to seek out a coach for the 2009 season.  After interviewing and considering several potential programs; I choose Eric Bean and Fast Forward Triathlon.  Eric had some obstacles to over come in getting started with me.  First and foremost; I had just come off reconstructive knee surgery.   We had to begin the program with very limited running in December and january.  By March I placed third overall in a regional dualthlon and won my age group by several minutes.  I went on to podium at every race including the St. Croix 70.3 where I got a Kona slot in my first attempt and second year at triathlon.  This would not have happened without a sold program to follow and a coach that understands sports related injuries.  Eric will hammer you when the time is right; but he knows how to reel you in when necessary.   I went on to great success throughout the remainder of the year despite having torn my right meniscus just after St Croix.  This was no fault of the coaching as I slipped on a muddy trail run.    I completed Kona with a very respectable time despte very limited running throughout the season.  I had a strong background as an elite masters cyclist and assumed that I would maintain my cycling strength.  To my surprise my cycing improved dramitically (and at the ripe young age of 50!!)  Which proves with the right program and dedication; you can always get faster.  I can’t until 2010!!  Thanks Eric.

-John Allen, FFT-RTP

I can’t express enough gratification for the help your workouts have been. Joe Friel’s got nothing on you! I’m looking forward to doing some rides with you as time permits. Thanks again!

Onward to 2013

We’re just a month away from race season! This is the worst time of the year for me. Everything is so close, but still so far away. Racing is just a few weeks away, but there are still plenty of painful workouts before then. The weather is trending in a positive direction, but there are [...]

Balance

By Erika Erickson As an athlete, I struggle a lot with finding and maintaining balance in my training.  This isn’t so shocking, because I struggle with finding balance also as a grad student, a friend, a daughter, a sibling, a roommate, a significant other, a…well, you get the idea – it’s hard to balance all [...]

My Top 7 Training Tools

Often friends and training partners ask me what products and tools I use for training and recovery, so I thought I would share my list of favorites. These are all tools that I find most essential to training, racing, and recovering (other than my bike, running shoes and swim goggles!) I wanted this list to be [...]

Greater Expectations – Goals for 2013 Season

From the time we’re in grade-school until we’re settled in our 20′s – some of us, even in our 30′s – we’re told that setting goals is a key, if not the key, to achieving what we want in life. Some people are better at setting goals than others. That is, they either knowingly or [...]
